The Homecoming
Acrylic and ink by Mike Shepley

Salmo salar the Atlantic salmon returns to the river of its birth, after travelling thousands of miles to its saltwater feeding grounds in the Arctic. The Latin name means leaper and Scotland's mightly rivers and highland streams are a challenge to the homecoming salmon, many of which travel to the very source of its natal river to spawn in the clean, gravelly pools of autumn.

Shorelines - North Berwick, East Lothian
From acrylic painting by Ali Abubakar

North Berwick- East Lothian seaside town on the Firth of Forth, approximately 25 miles east of Edinburgh. North Berwick is still a popular holiday town with its golf courses open to visitors.

Main Attraction: 'The Scottish Seabird Centre' at North Berwick Harbour ... a five star award-winning wildlife visitor attraction. The Scottish Seabird Centre will host the 'Darwin Today' Exhibition in Scotland, April 15 to 26, 2009.

Summer Rains - BlackIsle
Silla Collins Walden

The Black Isle is a lovely place. I cycle across there to paint sometimes. It's a matter of opinion but the theory is- that in winter when everything is covered in snow ... the Isle remains black! As my house is upon a hillI I have a lovely view across to the Isle. I have painted it in summer as well as in winter.

Winter - Skye
Silla Collins Walden

I travel to the Isle of Skye quite often to paint there. I rent a cottage and maybe spend a week there to paint. Skye is not called the misty Isle for nothing - it often rains here. However, the Cuillins are very dramatic and you can view them almost anywhere as you travel round the Island. It's a very peaceful place to stay in, and truly a painters paradise ... rain or mist!
